What should my kindergartener know?

1. Kindergarteners will work on their numbers 1-10 and numbers 1-20 but also working all the way up to 100.

2. count from 1-100 by ones and by tens.

3. comfortably add and subtract within 10.

4. write numbers up to 20.

5. compare groups of objects in terms of more, less, equal.

How to tell if your child is ready for kindergarten

Here are some of the most common skills a preschooler should master before entering kindergarten.

There are many variations amongst children, however. Make sure to consult your child’s pediatrician and a pre-school teacher in case you have some doubts or concerns.

Before starting kindergarten, a child is usually ready to:

1. sit still for periods of time

2. pay attention to a given task

3. follow instructions from the teacher

4. put on her own clothes (jackets, hats, shoes, etc.)

5. interact with peers in a constructive way

6. show curiosity in learning, reading, etc.
