What should my kindergartener know?

How to tell if your child is ready for kindergarten

Here are some of the most common skills a preschooler should master before entering kindergarten.

There are many variations amongst children, however. Make sure to consult your child’s pediatrician and a pre-school teacher in case you have some doubts or concerns.

Before starting kindergarten, a child is usually ready to:

1. sit still for periods of time

2. pay attention to a given task

3. follow instructions from the teacher

4. put on her own clothes (jackets, hats, shoes, etc.)

5. interact with peers in a constructive way

6. show curiosity in learning, reading, etc.
